Information and Call for Participation “Workshop for Utility Management“ in the course of the 10th IWA Specialised Conference on “Design, Operation and Economics September 9 – 13, 2007, Vienna, Austria Introduction The 10th IWA Specialised Conference on „Design, Operation and Economics of Large Wastewater Treatment Plants” (September 9 – 13, 2007, Vienna, Austria) will contain a new element to serve the interests and needs of utility managers and chief operators: A “Workshop for Utility Management”. The workshop itself will last one day and a half. It is designed in a way that it is also attractive for people who can only afford to spare a very limited amount of time in Vienna. However, since the workshop takes place together with the four-day Specialised Conference, workshop participants who have time and interest to visit parts of or the total conference are very welcome to do so. In case regular attendees of the Specialised Conference feel interested in participating in the workshop, they are of course also invited to do so.The conference programme is planned so that during the time of the workshop it focusses on more theoretical issues. The “Workshop for Utility Management” will consist of four sessions. Two will take place on Tuesday and two on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday afternoon participants from the workshop join those from the conference on the excursion to the main wastewater treatment plant of Vienna (4 million p.e., dry weather flow 680.000 m³/d) and to the sludge incineration plant. This recently rebuilt and extended plant is a great example of the cost-effective design and operation of a large nutrient removal plant. The offer of a Utility Management Workshop during the Conference of Design, Operation and Economics of Large Wastewater Treatment Plants illustrates IWA’s wish to bridge theory and praxis. Since utilities implement and transform theory into reality it is of mutual benefit if the dialogue between the managers and designers as well as the researchers is intense and fruitful. Registration fee To encourage the crossover between the workshop and the conference no distinction is made between the fee for the workshop and the conference. As said above, the attendees of both events are encouraged to participate in parts or in all of the other event. Time Schedule
Each session will be opened by a chairperson and be followed by a lead presentation of at least 20 minutes. The remaining time is open for short statements of the participants and for discussion. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harro Bode |
